AvLights for Samsung TV – Privacy Policy

AvLights for Samsung TV displays real-time USA aviation weather as color-coded dots on FAA sectional charts. This policy covers the app for Samsung Smart TVs. The Roku version has its own policy at privacy-policy.html, and the Apple TV version at privacy-policy-appletv.html.

1. Information We Collect

AvLights does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. The app has no account, login, or registration of any kind. It gathers no names, email addresses, device identifiers, advertising identifiers, location data, or usage analytics. There is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no crash reporting service in the app.

AvLights does not use your Samsung account, does not read the TV's advertising identifier (TIFA), and does not access what you watch or any other information held by the TV.

2. How the App Works

AvLights retrieves publicly available aviation weather reports (METARs) from the FAA Aviation Weather Center API (aviationweather.gov). Each request contains only a list of airport identifiers and nothing that identifies you or your TV.

It also retrieves public weather imagery — NEXRAD radar and surface-analysis overlays — from the National Weather Service (opengeo.ncep.noaa.gov, wpc.ncep.noaa.gov), and FAA sectional chart images from our own static file host (presumenothing.github.io and its GitHub release assets).

None of these requests identify you or your TV beyond the network-level information any web request necessarily carries, such as your IP address, which those servers may log under their own policies. Weather data is displayed on-screen and is not retained between sessions.

3. Data Stored on Your TV

AvLights keeps two kinds of data on your TV. Both stay on the TV and are never transmitted anywhere:

Your settings. Which maps are in rotation and how long each is shown are saved in the app's own local storage so they persist between launches.

Chart images. The app does not save chart files itself, but the TV's web engine may keep downloaded chart images in its ordinary cache so they do not have to be fetched again. The TV may clear this cache at any time.

Deleting the app removes both. Neither contains personal information.

4. Your Samsung TV and the Samsung Store

Your TV, your Samsung account, and the Samsung store are operated by Samsung and collect information under Samsung's own privacy policy. AvLights has no access to that information. If you obtain AvLights through the Samsung store, any purchase is handled entirely by Samsung; we receive no payment details and no information that identifies you.

5. Third-Party Services

AvLights uses no third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or attribution services. The only outside connections are the government weather sources and the chart host listed in section 2. We do not share any data with third parties, because we do not have any to share.

6. Children's Privacy

AvLights is suitable for all ages and collects no information from anyone, including children under 13. It has no user-generated content, no messaging, and no external links presented to the viewer.

7. California Residents (CCPA)

We do not collect personal information as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not sell or share personal information. There is nothing to request, delete, or opt out of.

8. Data Retention

We retain no user data of any kind, because none is collected. Saved settings and any cached charts live only on your TV and are removed when the app is deleted.

9. Not for Navigation

AvLights is for situational awareness only. It is not an approved source for flight planning or navigation. Always consult official sources.

10. Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change with it. Material changes will be reflected before a new version of the app is released.
